Treatment
Against Ticks and Tapeworms
E U Pet Passport Requirements
Before pets are
allowed to re-enter the UK under the scheme, they have to be treated
against the fox tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis) and ticks to
prevent a risk of potentially serious zoonotic disease coming into the
UK. The pet must be treated against
the tapeworm using praziquantel and against ticks using an approved
acaricide.
When
Does my Pet Have to Have This Treatment?
The treatment has
to be carried out not less than 24 hours and no more than 48 hours
before check-in at the port. The French vet will endorse the appropriate
pages in the EU Pet Passport. For tick treatment this is in Section
VI, which begins on page 10, and for the
Tape Worm treatment entries are in section VII beginning on page 16.
For each treatment
all of the information requested, must be supplied. That is; the manufacturer
and name of
the product used, the date and time of the application, and the stamp
and signature of the vet. The transport company staff will check your
pet and will need to see the passport,
so be sure to keep it safe. No other documentation will be acceptable.
For pets treated in the UK prior to trips of up to 48 hours, your vet
will complete the
passport to certify that he has administered the treatment.
