New rules to travel abroad with pets will apply from 01 January 2012

All pets will still need to be vaccinated against rabies but will no longer need a blood test and will only have to wait 21 days before they travel. Tick treatment for pets returning to the UK will no longer be required but tapeworm rules will apply to dogs only. The treatment has to be administered no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours (1-5 days) before its scheduled arrival time in the UK. The treatment must be recorded in the EU pet passport.

Entry to the UK from other EU Member States and approved non-EU countries:

For your pet to enter the UK from these countries, you must have completed the following :

(1) Pet must be microchipped.
(2) Currently vaccinated against rabies.
(3) Vaccinated after it was microchipped.
(4) You are in possession of an EU Pet Passport or Official Veterinary Health Certificate .....from your vet certifying the microchip and vaccination.
(5) 21 days have passed since it was vaccinated.
(6) You will be travelling back into the UK with your pet on an approved route.
